Experience – AIG Investments has successfully invested in private equity in Japan since the late 1990s, when private equity was first introduced in the country. Our senior team has more than 20 years of private equity investing experience in the region and has extensive relationships throughout the private equity industry, in Japan and abroad.
Active co-investment strategy – We co-invest in middle-market and large buyouts alongside top-tier, local private equity firms. We are not a passive co-investor; we actively source partners and investment opportunities, and often play an active role in our portfolio companies by sitting on the board or maintain other governance responsibilities.
Local presence – Our active co-investment strategy is successful because of our local presence in Japan and intimate knowledge of Japanese business culture and practices. Traditional sourcing channels are not as prevalent in Japan relative to the United States and Europe; we believe that AIG Investments has the resources to capitalize on the Japanese relationship-driven business culture.
Our “one-stop” investment platform in Japan also enhances co-investment deal flow as investment partners are attracted to our ability to invest in portfolio companies as well as funds, and provide other forms of capital funding including senior and mezzanine debt.
